What Medicare Does NOT Cover

Medicare helps pay for many important health needs, but it does not cover everything. Here are some things Medicare does not pay for:

  • Routine Dental Care – like cleanings, exams, fillings, root canals, dentures, and bridges.

  • Routine Vision Care – like eye exams for glasses, eyeglasses, and contact lenses.

  • Hearing Aids – the cost of the devices and routine hearing tests for fitting them.

  • Long-Term Nursing Home Care – also called custodial care, when you need help with daily tasks over a long period of time.

  • Most Home Health or Short-Term Care – unless it is ordered by a doctor and is medically necessary.

  • Incidentals – like travel, hotel stays, or food costs while getting medical care.
